Souvenir

Martin Parr’s photographs can remind us in our daily lives and we can recognize ourselves in them. The humorous elements can make you laugh in recognition in a liberating way. He shows us the familiar, but in a new light. If the laughter sometimes gets stuck in your throat, he has succeeded.

Parr examines the manner in which we consume, how we live and what we value – with a twist, looking for national characteristics and international phenomena.

Martin also does four or five fashion shoots a year and is currently exploring the whole idea of making fashion look more authentic. He likes the idea of doing street casting, trying to make fashion not look like fashion.

The exhibition “Souvenir” is a retrospective of Martin Parr’s color work and career comprising over 400 photographs, from the 1985 seaside pictures from his project “The Last Resort” to one of his latest projects, “Dance”, which he completed in 2011.
