Wu-Chang is a wearable arts experiment by Sheri Chi about transforming the wearer’s heartbeat to neon via sensors. Written in Chinese characters is 無常(Wu-Chang), which means Impermanence. The dynamic floating red neon gas relates to the concept of air floating in the body or “qi/chi 氣 (the air of life)” which in Chinese beliefs is the cultural interpretation of living signs in the body, as well as the ephemeral and fugitive sides of life.
